Reasons to Leave a Fantasy League

There are plenty of acceptable reasons to leave your fantasy football. Here are some good reasons that you should let your commissioner know you are going to leave the league.

Life events such as having a child, job transition, illness, etc.

Toxic relationships with other members of the league

The stress is starting to impact your life

Corruption or cheating within the league

A disrespectful league manager

Joining too many leagues and you can’t manage them all

The league isn’t active and players aren’t responding to trades, messages, etc.

How to Leave Your Fantasy Football League

Now, if you are planning on leaving your league. There are definitely ways that are better than others. Here are a few ways you can leave leagues easier than others.

Give as much notice as possible. It’s best to leave in between seasons if possible.

Don’t find a replacement unless it is requested by others in the league.

If you can quit before the draft, do it. The sooner the better.

Be straightforward and honest about the reason that you are leaving.

It might be awkward but you are leaving for a good reason. It’s best to be upfront about it so you aren’t hated by everyone in the entire league. Sometimes friends, family, league commissioners, etc. take fantasy sports a little too seriously.

Worst Case, Just Stop Playing

If you cannot get approval to leave the league, you can always just let your team run its course for the season. It’s not ideal because you can’t continue to play in another league if you want and will have to wait until the next season.

The good thing is you don’t have to continue to update your lineup or make roster moves. Just let the team run on auto and leave the league after the season has ended.

Leaving a League on Major Platforms

If you use any of the major platforms to play fantasy football, here’s a quick breakdown of how you leave your fantasy football league for ESPN, Yahoo, and NFL.com.

ESPN Fantasy League

On ESPN, head to my team on the ESPN fantasy football page. Then you click on the leave league button on your team page and confirm you want to leave the league.

For ESPN, you cannot leave your league after the draft has taken place unless the commissioner of the league approves.

Yahoo Fantasy Football

For Yahoo, head to the Yahoo fantasy football website. Select the league tab and choose the league you are leaving. Click on the leave league button and confirm that you want to leave.

If you are in a public league, you cannot leave if it’s after the league’s draft. For a private league, you can request that you are transferred to another league.

NFL.com Fantasy Football

Head to the NFL’s fantasy football site and head to league notes. In there, you can select delete team and confirm your selection. You cannot leave a public league after the draft. For a private league, you need the commissioner’s approval to leave the league.
